The nation’s 5th president, James Monroe, will be honored Thursday, April 28 with the Fort Lee Color Guard and US Army band followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.
To pay homage to the nation’s leaders, wreath-laying ceremonies are held annually at the gravesite of each of the former presidents on their birthday. Monroe’s family members along with state and local dignitaries are anticipated to be in attendance – local dignitaries will deliver a Gubernatorial Proclamation.
Following this annual tribute, the James Monroe Foundation will be hosting a separate wreath laying event in celebration of the President’s 266th Birthday with a guest speaker and the support of many lineage Societies, including the Sons of the Revolution in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The event immediately following the Nation’s Tribute is hosted by the James Monroe Foundation – of which the Sons of the Revolution are a proud participant. Photo’s of past events can be found on the event page under photo gallery.
